Understand the Reiki symbols and how to use them

     Reiki Two courses offer a fantastic opportunity to build upon the lessons and experiences of Reiki One. In Reiki One, invaluable lessons are taught about the nature of energy, the Reiki ideals etc and each person will have the experience of giving and receiving healing. No matter what style or method of attunement is used, each person should come away with a sound knowledge of what they are doing. From Reiki One a person can begin to use healing on others and begin to gain confidence in what they are doing through practice.

     Reiki Two builds upon the knowledge and experience of a Reiki One course and pupils are generally taught some Reiki symbols. Owing to the various approaches to Reiki different symbols are taught or variants upon the traditional symbols are also given out. Reiki symbols and their uses are one of the most emotionally driven areas of Reiki. This is because many believe them to be sacred symbols that have magical powers or that there is a need for a person to be ‘tuned’ into these through attunements before the symbols will ‘work’.

     I do not intend to examine the individual Reiki symbols or their traditional uses in detail but I do intend to explore Reiki symbology with regard to energy and whether these ideas make sense. I would also like to explore the most important aspect of Reiki symbology, which is what we can learn from their use. Another reason not to explore individual symbols is because there are so many systems promoting various symbols and their unique uses that we would be exploring all day. Needless to say, just as all attunements work, all symbols work because everything is energy and it responds to intent. If you can understand why one Reiki symbol works, you can understand how the rest do too.



When I used the Reiki symbols after my Reiki Two course I certainly got a response. They seemed to work, to do what I had been told and so I continued along this path but the more I understood about energy the less convinced I was that the symbol itself was doing the work. I later realised that these Reiki symbols simply provided me with another focus for my own energy.

    This difficulty was a deep concern for me as I was using these Reiki symbols within the Reiki attunements I was performing on others and if these symbols were not doing the work of attunements, what was? Over time I discovered that not only did it not matter what Reiki symbols were used, if any, but that attunements did not work in the way I had been taught. Over time this led me to discover that both the Reiki symbols and Reiki attunements were an unnecessary part of learning about energy and healing:but they were a part that help us understand the nature of energy.

   The result of my own exploration into these questions was the most freeing experience of my life, leading to a complete review of the nature of energy and my relationship to it. The journey showed me my own limitless abilities to create my life through an understanding of energy and that my own thoughts desires and energy followed my intent no matter what that intent may be. It turns out that my thoughts ‘fire out’ into reality and have effects. Through exploring the Reiki symbols I will show that your thoughts too have far more effect than you may consider. Through understanding why these symbols seem to work and gain results, we can all discover our greater abilities.
